Finished Project for July

I know, I know, it's August!!  My Bullseye Afghan* is finished and I want to show you, I need to show you, I'm itching to show you.  I started this blanket just before Christmas and it has taken me seven months to crochet.  You just can't rush some things!

Here is a photographic journey beginning with one circle, which slowly increased to twenty-five circles, to then playing with the placement of the circles, and to turning the circles into squares, and then the beginnings of sewing them together.  Phew, I'm pooped just thinking about the process.

It has been such a fun blanket to crochet.  It was easily transportable, which isn't always the case with a large crochet project.  I had a project-specific bag that I would throw a circle into and my hook and off I would go to horse-riding lessons or violin lessons and sit in the car waiting for the girls, and happily hook away.  I think the word "essentials" is referring to wool and hook, don't you?

End project.  Ready for use.  Still cold here.  Perfect timing.

I say "finished", but part of me is wondering if a border is needed?  I really don't know!  Is everything better with a border? Would love some feedback.

So glad I just raced outside to take these photos when I did, when there was a little bit of blue sky, as it's now raining cats and dogs!  Enjoy your week.

  1. Impressive Trudy and very original. I love that you have done a dark colour to make up each square this brings out the colours and shape of the circles more. Gives the whole afghan dimension. Re: feedback...if it were me I'd be doing a border too which will stop the corners curling up throughout use and also frame this wonderful afghan. Hard work has paid off!!!

    keep well

  2. Looks fantastic Trudy, perfect for today, sooooo cold and windy here! The borders I put on my blankets are pretty plain, just a couple of rows of tr usually, because I am always ready to move onto something new by that stage. Might have to put this pattern on the to do list! Have a great day and stay warm! Julie :)

  3. This looks fantastic trudy. Love the contempory look it has. When it comes to doing a border, I think live with it for a couple of weeks and see if it bugs you that it dosen't have one. If it dosen't play on your mind, then move on to the next project.

  7. Yes - I think a border always finishes things off neatly. Could be the same as the background colour, or with a stripe or two of the other colours in...

  10. Trudy - what a lovely blanket and well worth the work. The dark colour works fantastically. Like your other comments I probably would go for a border, though it still looks great without.

  11. Looks fabulous. On balance I think a border would just finish it off nicely.

  12. Oh wow, Trudy, that blanket is amazing!! No wonder it took 7 months, you can tell that a lot of time and love went into it. It reminds me of the Kandinsky circles painting. Personally, I would add a border in a different shade, but it's stunning as it is. x

  13. Thanks so much peeps for all your fabulous comments! Seems to be the concensus that a border will just finish it off, so I've decided to add a bit of RED!!! There might have to be an update to the post when a couple of rows have been added. Hope you all enjoy some hooky time too!! : -)

  14. Personally I always like a border but your blanket is gorgeous just as is. Just make sure the border doesn't take away from the prettiness of the blanket. Hmmm, just read your comment. Definitely RED!!! I L-O-V-E RED. : )

  16. lol at "happily hook" while girls are at their lessons. :-)
But jokes aside, it is a lovely rug - obviously a lot of work went into it. Trudy I love your use of colour - always so pretty and tasteful.
